Importance of Going Green
It is vital to our society for the earth to be healthy. Earth is the planet we live on, sustaining us with water, food, perfect temperatures, and light from the sun. Human impact has damaged the environment, especially since factories and cars are widely being used. Litter and pollution also cause huge problems, animals being tangled in hundreds of improperly disposed pieces of plastic and other man-made materials. Simply throwing aside your mask on the ground could get stuck in the mouth of a sea turtle or get caught on a seagull's neck. The trash also gets stuck in the ocean, floating in large piles, even though this can be easily be avoided by recycling.
The 3 R's
This challenge is mostly about the 3 Rs. Recycling is reusing items that would normally be thrown into the trash. Such as using a tire and rope to make a swing, a plastic water bottle as a pencil holder, a pizza box that can be used to make a board game, and so on. There are three R's: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Reducing means to lower the amount of something. For example, when you print out a paper with writing on it you can use both sides to reduce the amount of ink used. Another way to reduce is to use reusable water bottles instead of plastic to reduce the amount of plastic used. To reuse something means to repurpose something. Such as using a plastic water bottle to hold a plant.
Picking Up Trash
As you may know, trash is a huge problem that is affecting Earth. Animals get trapped in it or/and accidentally eat it. Earth is covered in trash, from oceans to forests. This challenge will also be focusing on the trash and picking it up. We can all do our part in picking up trash. For example, you can start a club that picks up trash on your school grounds or makes new things out of (almost) trash. Another way to do our part is to go to your local park or beach and pick up the trash there.
